BREAKING NEWS: Michael Felger Leaves 890 ESPN Boston to Join WEEI.com

In a topsy turvy Friday, David Scott has learned that Michael Felger has left 890 ESPN in Boston and will join Boston Herald colleague Rob Bradford at WEEI.com. For WEEI.com to get two heavy hitters from the Herald in Bradford and Felger, this gives the site huge credibility.

The suits at Entercom must be planning big things for WEEI.com, making it a newsgathering operation instead of shoveling audio clips from various interviews during the day. To have Bradford and Felger writing for the site gives WEEI two reporters who can cover the Red Sox and Patriots, respectively and break news when necessary.

And in a developing story, John Crowe over at the Crowe’s Nest is dropping hints that there could be change in the landscape in Providence sports radio which is currently made up of WEEI-FM and WEEI-FM only. We’ll see what is going on. My guess is that my former station, WHJJ could be flipping formats as Clear Channel is the only other owner along with Citadel and Entercom with a heavy presence in the market. We’ll see. More to follow as they say.

UPDATE – 4:35 p.m.: I’ve talked with a source at Clear Channel Providence and there’s been no word of any change in formats in the stations at the cluster. We’ll see where this goes.
