But let's ease into the Videos of the Week. Today's edition involves the countdown videos of BBC World News/BBC News 24. For some reason, I'm intrigued by watching the time counting down to the beginning of a program. Sometimes, you'll see the slate if a TV station makes a mistake. But in BBC News' case, it was done on purpose. Partly to fill time, partly to let people know that the next program was about to start.
And people started noticing and began to note the different video styles, different graphics and in some cases, different scenes to each countdown video. The music for the most part has stayed the same, but has been remixed as the years have changed. If you watch BBC World News America on BBC America, then you hear part of the music, but not the whole thing.
Let's take a look at some of the videos and maybe you'll become a fan as well.
This video is a 60 second countdown from 2001.
Graphics are a bit different as well as the music in the 2003 countdown.
In 2005, viewers noticed that BBC correspondents were now being used in the countdown, plus that red streak to signify signals flying through the air. I guess that's what it's supposed to be. This is from 2007.
Here's the full 60 second countdown. I like it.
Last year, BBC News returned to the graphics and eliminated the slate of correspondents. The music was also remixed and sounds more dramatic.
And for good measure, BBC News itself put together a compilation of different countdowns from 1999 through 2007. I can actually rock out to this.
For good measure, here's a bonus video. An NBC News countdown video leading into a Special Report.
So there you have it. A compilation of different BBC News countdown videos and I hope you enjoyed it. I'll be back later with the links. Plus, I may try to do a live blog of NFL action around 12 p.m. Check your RSS and Twitter feeds.
